DanceWorks inaugural fellow, Nickeshia Garrick, is currently exploring the socio-political, cultural and artistic influences on Black Performance Art from the 1960s to now across Turtle Island, with an initial focus on Toronto. Her research will inform her work-in-progress, the ties that Bind Us, the ties that Bond Us (working title). The Fifth Dance
Martial arts is a hot ticket in film & tv, dance, and theatre, and is a valued asset to any performer. This workshop will break down fighting stances, punches, and kicks so that you can unleash your inner superhero/shero/queero! Learn the difference between straight, round, uppercut punches, front, side, and roundhouse kicks, as well as some fancier movements like spinning hook kicks, jump kicks, and sweeps.
